Commodore

Mark Leese

My wife, Sandra, and I moved to Bainbridge Island in 1997 after living in the Far East for nearly thirty years. Both of us are British born, and on retirement we chose to live here rather than the UK. We are now US Citizens and thoroughly enjoy living on the Island. We owned several sailboats in Hong Kong and raced in many events in South East Asia. We now own Double Haven, a 40ft Trawler, for speedier passage making, but still sail competitively on other peoples boats out of Eagle Harbor every week.  As Commodore of the Eagle Harbor Yacht Club, I wish to encourage more membership participation in our mainly informal social events that we hold throughout the year.

Vice Commodore

John Chen

My wife, Rhonda, and I moved back to the NW in 1979 and to Bainbridge in 1986.  I have been boating for about 40 years.  We joined EHYC in 1992 when we were avid sailors.  We are now retired and ready for some long distance and more relaxed cruising, so we recently purchased a 38’ trawler and named her Breezy Spirit.  No longer having to make the daily commute, I can now be more active in the activities with our boating friends.  I am looking forward to working with the club membership to plan fun activities for the coming year.  Let’s all have fun on the water, and stay safe.

Rear Commodore

Gary Bracken

My wife, Elizabeth, and I returned to the Northwest in 2001 to be closer to family and to cruise the waters of the Pacific Northwest and Inland Passage.  We presently cruise Waypoint II, a 42’ Krogen, and are on the water the year-round.  We appreciate the camaraderie that is part of EHYC and the informal nature of club activities.  If you enjoy relaxed cruising with a group of welcoming boaters, come and join in!  Part of the Rear Commodore’s job is to organize the cruise calendar and recruit cruise captains to do the real work of creating a successful cruise.  Contact me if you wish to volunteer as a cruise captain, suggest a future cruise, or discuss anything about our cruise calendar.  See you on the water!

Treasurer

Dave LaFave

My wife, Marlene, and I have been members or the EHYC for ten years, and for the past nine of those years I have served as the Secretary/Treasurer of the Club.  I have been the Manager of the Winslow Wharf Marina for twelve years, and while I am not a boater myself, being the manager of a marina has made me well aware of the boating world and the people who are avid boaters!  I enjoy golfing and riding my Yamaha motorcycle around the countryside.

Secretary

Gail Wohlford

Frank and I moved to Bainbridge Island in 1999, to live aboard our Taswell 44 sailboat with our school-aged son Matthew. We have since moved onto dry land and Matt has moved on to college.  We are actively looking for a pilothouse trawler to purchase.  Yes, we are moving to the “dark side.”  Our ultimate goal is to cruise the Great Loop after exhausting the waters of the Pacific Northwest and northern British Columbia.

Quartermaster

Tedd Kraft

Kathy and I have lived on Bainbridge Island since we retired five years ago.  For our 40th wedding anniversary, we purchased our first boat, a Hunter 41 sailboat, and named her “Everyday is Saturday” or “Saturday” for short.  We took our basic sailing classes on Monterey Bay and sailed on San Francisco Bay, but we are not the “tried and true” sailors that seem to make up most of EHYC.  Every time out is a learning experience.  We love sailing the Seattle area, the San Juan Islands, and Howe Sound just above Vancouver BC.  Boating folks are a fun and friendly lot, and so helpful to a couple just learning the ropes.  Thank you, Eagle Harbor Yacht Club.
