Flag Officers

Commodore

John Chen

My wife, Rhonda, and I both grew up in Oregon.  As a kid in the 60's, I grew up water skiing behind my folk's Chris Craft cabin cruiser, and later shifted into sailboats.  Overall, I have been boating for about 45 years.  We joined EHYC in 1992 when we were avid sailors, and we switched to a trawler in 2007.  We plan to do some long distance cruising up north, to the Broughton Islands, Inside Passage, and toward SE Alaska.  We don't know when we will actually get there, or how far we will get, but we are sure we will have fun along the way.  It is the journey, not necessarily the destination, which should be savored. I am looking forward to working with the new slate of officers and the membership to plan fun activities for the coming year.  Let's all have fun on the water, and stay safe.

Vice Commodore

Cindy Robinson

After returning home to Seattle from a 3-yr cruise aboard our sailboat in 2003, we moved to Bainbridge and spent three years remodeling and "settling in". In 2006 we purchased and refit a 40' Willard trawler, Rincon, but began to miss feeling part of the boating community. It only made sense to join EHYC to meet the local boaters here on Bainbridge Island and it was one of the best decisions Gregg and I have made!  We have found the members to be friendly and fun; a diverse group of folks with all kinds of boats and all kinds of backgrounds, but we all have common interests, be it a failing alternator or new fuel pump! I am happy to serve on the Board this year as Vice-Commodore, and look forward to meeting old and new members. I will continue on as your Webmaster, also.

Rear Commodore

Rod McKenzie

Barb and I have been Bainbridge Island residents since 1996 having moved from Kirkland Wa., to get out of the Rat Race. We have been active  boaters all of our lives and took up sailing when we moved to the Island. Sail boat racing has become a passion since becoming one of the original sailors of the Bainbridge Wednesday Sail Group in 1998 and I can be found out at the Harbor entrance on the starting line most Wednesday's of the year on RODSTER our J105. As owners of Coldwell Banker McKenzie Real Estate we are very busy in the community and enjoy our interaction with many of the Island residents and businesses. Barb and I joined EHYC in 2004 and as this years Rear Commodore I look forward to a busy year on the Board of Directors and participating in the future growth of the Club.

Treasurer

Gail Wohlford

Frank and I moved to Bainbridge Island in 1999 to live aboard our Taswell 44 sailboat with our school-aged son, Matthew. We have since moved onto dry land and Matt has moved on to college.  In 2008 we switched from sail to power when we purchased a 1988 Hans Christian Independence 45.  This is our fourth "Carolina."  Our sons have wagered that we have one more boat in us.  I think we will win that bet.  After I retire (hopefully in four years) we plan to cruise Mexico and the Great Loop after exhausting the waters of the Pacific Northwest and northern British Columbia.  In the meantime, Frank has plenty to do restoring the newest Carolina to her past glory.

Secretary

Jean Fernandes

Doug and I are Seattle natives who moved to Bainbridge Island in 1989. We have been boating since the early 70's when we purchased our first sailboat, a 26' Westerly Centaur, Wind's Call.  Many boats later, in the late '90's, we lived aboard a Beneteau Oceanus 40, Gusto, at Eagle Harbor Marina for four years where we met many EHYC members and joined the Club! Until 2007 we had not ventured beyond Barkley Sound and the Broughtons, but we now have two passages to southeast Alaska under the keel of our 1989 C&C 41, Shaman.

Past Commodore

Quartermaster

Dan Marler

My family started boating in northwest waters when I was very young.  After our marriage my wife Mary was soon drawn into the family pastime.  We chartered boats for over 30 years until we “found” Sea Venture on a 2006 charter.  Her owners invited us to join with them in ownership and in the Eagle Harbor Yacht Club.
