Open house on March 18

picture of club house interior

Hopefully you've heard by now that EHYC finally has a club house. So what's next? An Open House, of course! Join us at the club house on Friday, March 18 for some Good Cheer, Good Company, and Good Fun. Drop in at the club house anytime between 6pm and 9pm, and check out the new surroundings. We'll provide some great snacks, so just bring your own beverage and come on out. If you know someone who would like to learn more about the club, bring them along too. The location is 5834 Ward Avenue, upstairs at Eagle Harbor Marina. Contact Rick Randall, 360-536-2995, if you have questions. See you there!

Great social events planned

Floating Party and Oktoberfest

The EHYC Social Committee, chaired by Ruby Kidd, has been busy planning several great events for this year. The highlights will be an Oktoberfest Party on October 15 and a Floating Party at the Leese's dock in Eagle Harbor on July 9. In addition we plan to continue the popular Ladies Luncheons and Diesel and Beer events introduced last year -- watch future Newsletters for dates and details, or check the EHYC online calendar. You won't want to miss any of these events; they're sure to be lots of fun! And if you would like to help the Social Committee with any of our events, please contact Ruby for more information.

The Social Crew: volunteers needed

We are forming a special 'Social Crew', which would be a pool of people who could help out on a "per event" basis with no long term committee commitment. The Social Committee could use additional support to put on individual events, and would greatly appreciated your participation - contact rubykidd5@gmail.com to join in the fun.

Super Bowl Party was, well... super!

picture of people with chili trophy

Football on the new big-screen TV and tasty chili at half time -- what more do you need? Oh yes, a few beers. Well OK, maybe a lot of beers!. We managed to squeeze about 50 fans into the club house on February 6 for the 3rd annual Super Bowl Party and Chili Cook off. A special "Thank You" goes to our friends at BIYC for co-hosting the party and for setting up the new TV. And thanks to all you chili cooks from both clubs. We had 10 excellent entries to sample, and all were fantastic. We're also proud to announce that the coveted "Super Chili Bowl" trophy went to EHYC this year, as your editor's Experimental Chili #1 was voted best in class. The trophy, generously donated by Past Commodore Cindy Robinson, will remain on display at the club house this year to help inspire all of you to culinary greatness next February.

Committees -- Where the real work gets done

As things get rolling this year, and the EHYC events calendar fills up, I can't help but be impressed by the amount of work needed to keep the club running smoothly. Your officers and Board members put in a good deal of time, it's true, but as with most successful organizations, EHYC depends on committees to get things done.

Some committees have a fairly high profile and their contributions are easily seen (Social and Cruise, for example). Others are less visible (Reciprocal, Audit, Programs), but are no less essential to our success. Another (Facilities) is new, and will take form over the coming months. We truly appreciate the time and effort put in by all committee members. Without you, none of this would be possible. Listed here are the members of EHYC committees. Please let them know that their efforts are appreciated. And if you would like to help, please let me know or contact a committee chair directly. Committee work is essential to the organization, and its a great way to meet other members and learn how EHYC works.

Small Stuff...

Great start to 3rd Fridays... The first of our regular "3rd Friday" get-togethers was February 18, and what a fun time it was! Great food (Roast Duck, Fried Rice, Smoked Salmon, and more), and great company (around 15 attended this time). If you missed this one, you'll have another chance on Friday, March 18 (The EHYC Open House).

EHYC events calendar... Don't miss your favorite event this year! The EHYC Events Calendar for 2011 is filling up fast. Be sure to check out the EHYC online calendar. Or you can view a list of event dates here.

Whoops! Forgot the Quartermaster... We somehow left our Quartermaster, Park Woodworth, off the list of Officers in the side bar of the January EHYC News. We've repaired that in this issue -- Sorry Park!
