Port Townsend Cruise

Hudson Point Marina

June 13-15, 2008

Nine boats made the cruise and others attended by car for a total of 33 that were rewarded with overcast skies with sunny periods. We knew we were in the right place when we spotted the fire plugs painted to our colors.

We decided since Port Townsend is such an active place with many attractions that we would only have organized activities on Friday and leave the rest of the weekend open for all cruisers to socialize or visit where they pleased. Most boats arrived early in the afternoon and had plenty of time to settle in before cocktails and with cocktails.

At 1800 hrs 33 of us gathered in the Marina party room for the BYOB Blind Wine Tasting event. Everyone brought a bottle to be judged and rated for best bouquet and flavor and balance. All samples were rated from 0 – 5; 0 being disgusting to 5 for excellent.

The prize of  Eagle Harbor BIBS went to Frank and Gail Wholford for the best RED (the second year in a row) and Gil and Caren Wood for Best White. The bibs were beautifully embroidered with the EHYC Bergee by Mary Marler and modeled for the event by Barb McKenzie.

The wine tasting was followed by a fresh crab feast that got everyone into a boisterous cracking mood; and was topped off with some great deserts and plenty more wine.

The evening was raucously wrapped up dancing to music supplied and set up by Bob Schoonmaker.

Many attended the Saturday farmers Market and enjoyed the eclectic shops that are the true Port Townsend.

Not to be out done the dogs were in full attendance leading some to suggest that the name should be changed to the EH Yacht and Kennel Club [sic].

Great fun had by all.
